A native of Northern Virginia, Matt and his wife Susan moved to Phoenix in 2004. He got his start in the financial field in 2007 by completing an unusual 1-year apprenticeship under Bill Gold where he learned not only how to advise clients but also to teach financial education. Bill showed him the importance of financial literacy in today's society and how to change people's lives for the better through the classroom. Matt carries on this tradition today through corporate and community workshops on a variety of topics.
He currently holds several industry designations:
- ChFC Chartered Financial Consultant® (Advanced Financial Planning)
- CRPC Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor®
- CFS Certified Fund Specialist®
- CFEI Certified Financial Education Instructor (In progress)
Matt has been very active in the local Human Resources community and currently serves as the President/Director of the Arizona SHRM State Council (Society for Human Resource Management). He was also honored to serve the 2014 President of SHRM of Greater Phoenix. His expertise on the effects of employee financial problems in the workplace has led him to be an invited speaker multiple times at the Arizona State SHRM Conference.
Before joining the financial world Matt spent 14 years as a communications expert for the U.S. Military & Government, where he held a secret clearance. He is an alumnus of the Fork Union Military Academy and the Virginia Military Institute but his dreams of a career in the Navy were cut short due to vision problems. He stays busy with a multitude of hobbies such as being an FAA certified private pilot, former State Champion/Olympic hopeful in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do, Past-President of the VMI Alumni Association, and even volunteering on the Board of Directors for a local horse rescue.
